Out of a creek system in the Monticello, Kentucky, area, 2&3/8" by 1&3/16", and a 3/8" thick medial ridge. The Late Paleo Culture knapper (I see the piece as a Quad, not a Beaver Lake, the one auricle is longer, and out-flares where a Beaver Lake would have short auricles and they'd be flatter to the base). One thing clear is that the knapper ran out of room (flint) before he could finish-out the base; side-to-side is a flat plane--it curves from the finished auricle over to the " wasn't enough flint to work" side. A close up photo should show the work this 9500BO era craftsman put in. Give him points for trying, as both faces show basal thinning flakes to haft the lance tip. Too, both lateral edges--one more than the other--show grinding to the lower lateral surfaces. The flint (Muldrough I would call it) must have been tough to work, trying to thin his preform must have cost the knapper that flint he needed along the one side of the preform--at the basal corner there simply wasn't any more flint. In those crevices you'll note that the piece has never been washed--you see it as it was found--it's real, period. Shipping is $7.00, checks or M.O.s are how I welcome payment. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type payments--Roy A.
