Out of the Massac County, Illinois area along the Ohio River, this Cobbs (Early Archaic Culture) is made of the local "Bailey Chert"--could be some heat treating if I'm reading the red oxides near the tip correctly. In some ways the flint has similarities to Ft. Payne Chert, the variegation (mottling)--visually a good looking Cobbs Knife with that inclusion--the band running across the tip. Length is slightly over 3&7/8" by 1&3/8"--thickness is pretty uniform at 3/8". The steep left-hand-bevels tell you the blade went through many sharpen-and-use cycles--the bevels, their uniformity, those also tell you the 7500BP hunter took exceptional care of his knife. Note on the upper blade there are "matched indentions" to either blade edge--were they shaft scraping features, or some other, unknown use, but they're directly opposite--makes you want to know just what side use the knife had. Purchased from the finder, the knife is 100% guaranteed authentic in EVERY detail. Shipping is $7.00, carefully packed, and I welcome checks or M.O.s, but I do not use payment services (like paypal)--Roy A.
