Some call the flint variety simple "Hornstone", others opt for Hopkinsville Chert--St. Genevieve Chert variety--there's enough mottling, enough color variation that I'd agree with the "Hopkinsville" label. The point comes from Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, a Big Sandy, basal ground, so it's definitely Early Archaic Culture--flaking (knapping) is definitely Early Archaic pressure chipping, too. Length is 2&1/8" by 1&1/4", but what's surprising is that max thickness is only 1/4"--as wide as that base is you'd think the piece had a 'strong' medial ridge (thicker)--it doesn't, it's very symmetrical. The finder abbreviated the county info on one face, his initials (?) on the reverse face--sometimes you're left guessing what provenance from earlier collectors was for: site, roadway, farm, whatever. Patina is excellent, every detail is guaranteed authentic. Shipping is $9.00 with checks or M.O.s the way to buy the piece. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
