One decent piece of Indiana Harrison County Hornstone--slightly over 2&11/16" by 1&7/16", with a max thickness of 5/16". The very large (smooth) center of the reverse face indicates the piece was made from a large Hornstone flake, it didn't start as a Cobbs Knife (bifacial) as so many Dovetails began. Great workmanship. There is enough bevel to also show more than one sharpening of the blade, so the hafted knife started a bit longer. The side of the tip has a flat plane, just a small degree of 'stack' in the flint--one part of me says it was an impact fracture, but possibly that stack made it impossible to properly edge that small area of the tip--this thin flat spot was there when the piece was first made--had there been additional sharpenings of the blade the length and width would have been reduced, the edges (the tip) would have been properly thinned. The basal nick on the dove base is ancient, totally patinated--base is strongly ground. Out of Vigo County, Indiana, the Dove is lifetime guaranteed authentic in every detail. Shipping adds $6.00 to the price, and checks or M.O.s are welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
