76542--Colorful stemmed Indiana point
A friend came up with this Vanderburgh County, Indiana, creek find some years ago--colorful, but I haven't more than a guess (West Franklin Chert) as to the chert. There was (once) some provenance written on one face, but handling has long since smeared that history. The find is nearly to 2&7/8" by 1&5/8", with a small hafting area stack reading as 3/8" thickness--mostly thinner, though. The base of the stem show deliberate lateral edge fracturing, so was this a Decatur that was salvaged--or even a Decatur that a later culture salvaged? I suspect later-period-salvage due to the one rounded barb--I think a Late Archaic hunter did that work. Neat piece, regardless. Shipping is $46.00, checks, cash, or M.O.s are welcomed.
