Found along the Wabash River, county of the same name in southeast Illinois. Made of granite, Full Groove Early Archaic Culture--4&1/8" by2&11/16", 1&9/16" max thickness. I doubt I need to add that this is a field find, plows have answered that one for me--but those scratches also tell the history of the piece. Note that the top doesn't have the 'flatness' of the Mid Archaic axes, but if I'm to guess I think this was made during the latter part of the Early Archaic--styles were changing, there wasn't as much 'groove' on the top of an axe.. One other note--this piece was used more as a hammer, it has an extra dull bit--some of that is work-dulling, but I doubt this one edge had a crisp bit. You don't chop down a tree with a bit this rounded. Guaranteed authentic, period. Shipping is $10 Priority Mail, checks or M.O.s welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
