Out of a Tipton, Indiana, collection, a Paleo Clovis that (based on the length of the flute channels) was once FAR longer than the present length of 2&1/16" by 1"--the thickness is a very uniform 1/4". A couple 'other measurements'--the longer flute from the top of the auriculate base to the terminal 'hinge fracture' is 1&7/16"--the shorter flute is 1&1/8". Those are LONG flutes, even if the lance tip started at twice the present length they're still extra long for a Clovis knapper. Worth mentioning is the lateral edge grinding--heavy. The basal edge may have started with heavier grinding than at present, but under 10x magnification a small flake in the center of the base looks to have exfoliated; that took off a small bit of the ground edge--part of that flake removal could also have been done when the point was rehafted, but I still see a couple micro flake-offs that are recent. The auricle ends show ancient use wear, and the one blade edge has a flake that's either from handling or farm damage--it was there what I first saw the piece in it's frame--it's small, but you can see the ancient patina all around it, you can study the aging of the Clovis right there. The Paleo is 100% guaranteed authentic in every detail, described as accurately as I can do so without writing a book on it. I pay the shipping cost, and I accept checks or money orders--please note I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
