When you see flaking that top-end, you want to immediately assign the point to the Early Archaic Period...except the basal edge is not ground, hardly even dulled, and that's Middle Archiac workmanship. The closest history I could get is that the piece is from the Owensboro, Kentucky, area. If the flint is Dover, it's the highest grade of Dover Flint I've ever seen--it looks more like a Kentucky grade of Hornstone. It's patinated (very patinated), it's real, that's guaranteed. Length is 3&5/16" by 1&5/16", and to keep that going, thickness is 5/16"--excellent symmetry, I think you'll agree. The tip was used as a gouge, the close up photo should show the 6500 BP wear--not damage, simply a secondary use made of the tip--excellent condition blade--I was told it was in the collection of a very elderly collector, and has spent the last fifteen years in my collection.
