No matter how much flint you get in your hands, eventually you pick up one where you're left with a "What the heck is it?" After months of the point being on my computer monitor stand I finally decided I'd seen something similar--that one also an ex G.Noel point, as it happens, years back--sure enough, a Damron (examples easily found in your Overstreet). The point type is from southern Kentucky, Tennessee, maybe even some south of TN. This hafted knife from along the KY/ TN state line, no way to know which side of the line, though. The flint is a very weathered hornstone type3&5/8" by 1&7/16"--thin at only slightly over 1/4" max thickness. Both left blade edges are beveled, a trait that points to the Early Archaic Culture origins of the point type--also the base shows grinding. Is the type related to the Dovetail forms? Undoubtedly, but it's said to extend into the Mid Archaic, so it has some 'transitional' traits, too. Neat piece, one you'll find you learn from. Shipping is $6.00 with checks or M.O>s welcomed. Sorry, I do NOT use paypal--Roy A.
