The finder wrote the stream name on the back of the piece--Pond River--that's one of the most twisting 'rivers' in existence, Muhlenburg and Hopkins County, Ky, area--I think you could measure five times the length of river for five miles point-to-point--he knew rockbars I could only hope to ever find. This blade/ knife, I'm working on the assumption it's Hornstone, but those iron oxides showing, I've never seen hornstone of that type before. Strictly a guess on my part, but I think the flint was exposed to an ancient campfire. Hornstone will generally explode (literally) if you try to heat treat it, but if a flint nodule was used to 'ring' a campfire, accidental heat tempering could occur. Length is 2&1/4" by 1&1/2"--where the ancient maker 'could' you'll find pressure chipped edge. On the more 'cortex side' you'll see more percussion chipping. Work dulled the tip edges, so the knife did see some use--also shows a shaft scraper indention on one side. Some artifacts, they may not be a 'grade ten', but a combination of color and form, they're very collectible--this is one. Shipping is $5, checks, cash, or M.O>s are welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
