Raw iron ore, probably found in the deposits that now are part of Kentucky's Land Between the Lakes (blast furnace remains and 'diggings' are part of their exhibits)--the piece itself was found in Henderson County, Kentucky, an area that in the 1200s--1400s held a considerable Mississippian Cultural site--winter cornfields in the modern era have produced a number of these polished Hematite rubstones--ground to a high polish as the powered iron was abraded--early 'cosmetics' facial paint, or for ceremonial use, ocher was a staple. The polished stone (ore) measures 1&9/16" by 1&1/8", and 7/16" thickness--REALLY dense. Shipping is $6.00 with checks, cash, or M.O.s welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
