Definitely qualifies as a "colorful piece", this Mozarkite Celt is from a collection on the far western edge of Illinois, St. Claire County. Length is 4&3/4" by nearly 2&1/4", 1" thickness. The bit area shows the wear-down of the knapping ridges--USE, a nd very much thinned on the bit edge. The slanted heel is ground smooth either from use or intentional grinding--so was the piece hafted, or hand-held might only be answered by saying there aren't matching "ground indentions" on either side, dulled spots that'd indicate the use of sinew to attach the piece to a handle. To me that'd mean it was a hand-held Celt/ chopper. That's not a 100% surety, it could be the user wasn't too worried about the sinew abrading as it was lashed tightly to a handle in his opinion. Guaranteed real, period. Shipping is $10-- sorry about shipping cost, but USPS rates and 'zone charges' make shipping a challenge thee days. I welcome payments by checks, cash, or M.O., but I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
