To start with what this piece has "going for it"--one heck of a base: fluted, lateral-edge-ground (and basal edge), thinning flakes on the reverse face. The flint, a Burlington Chert sub-type( or Avon Chert), had too many fracture planes to fashion a full lance point--as a hafted knife (and perforator), though, it was a fine vehicle--a tool that worked. Length is 3&3/16" by 1&9/16", a THICK 5/8" due to the 'stack' in the flint--tip area, the 'gouge area' is thin, same as is the base. The Illinois piece is from the Union County area in the S.W. corner of the state--is it Dalton, or is it Clovis? Ask twelve people, I suspect you'd get a split of answers, the similarities in how each culture fashioned their bases are just too hard to separate--neat tool, regardless, and REAL. Price includes the cost of shipping, payment welcomed by check or M.O.--cash is fine, too, but I never use paypal--Roy A.
