100% Authentic--that's the first thing I'll say (and guarantee)--the axe is out of the Richard Brewer collection a few years back, found in the Union--Jackson County, Illinois, area where he lived (no other provenance was provided by the estate). Made from a dense granite the Axe is right/ at / over 7" by 5&1/8". At the thickest measure of the heel is 2&13/16" on my caliper. The bit seems small for so large of an axe--a three-quarter groove, but that may have been decided (for the maker) by the shape of the river cobble he began working. The style of the axe seems to be in the in-between period, Early Archaic-phasing-into-Mid Archaic--it it is a 'true' Mid Archaic it's a slightly different form than cultures like Benton Peoples made. Again, that could well be due to that Mississippi River cobble they began working. Decades of handling (and probably farming) you'll spot a couple light chips, but that's very light 'damage' for so large of an axe. Farm equipment, we've all seen stone tools scratched in a criss-cross from being rolled by disc blades. Due to weight the piece is shipping by Priority Mail--$15.00. I welcome payment by check or money order, but please note I do not use paypal--Roy A.
