It took me three or maybe it's four years now to decide what to call this point--only the third one of these Damron Points I've ever held in my hands--the blade, the barbs, they show the Early Archiac influence, but that base, it's too wide for any of the Kirks, and just not "shaped right". The piece is from a Hopkins County, S.W. Kentucky, area collection, made of a brown/ tan Jasper, 2&9/16" by 1&7/16"--thickest on the base where you wouldn't expect to find the thickest spot (between 5/16 and 3/8")--usually that thickest spot is between the barbs, but the way the Jasper was knapped, a slight stack formed. That 'high spot', it feels like the hunter ground that small 'ridge', or possibly the lashings caused the piece to move around on the handle, that smoothed the flint right there. One note--there is an edge impact fracture to the tip--they used the piece as it was, the tip being so sharp after that flake broke away.. Oh, basal grinding--not a HINT--blade edges and basal edge have the same degree of use wear. Interesting point, unusual type, guaranteed authentic. Shipping is $6.00 with checks, cash, or M.O>s welcomed--Roy A.
