Almost five years back, the estate sale of Dr. Homer Skaggs Jr.; frames of his choice Paleo tools were offered for sale--had I had thirty--forty thousand in my pockets that day I could have EASILY spent it. I bought what both appealed to my collecting sense... and my budget...which meant some thousands of points, scrapers, etc..., much of it Paleo (Dr. Skaggs main collecting interest) went all over the country. These three Uniface Paleo tools, most likely from Dr. Skaggs McLean County, Kentucky, source, are some I've held onto. The doctor (and his "usual source") termed the site "Paleo Ridge". They weren't wrong: Clovis points, Beaver Lakes, Quads--can't say if I saw a Cumberland, but it's possible--tools and more tools by the hundreds. These three, the smallest Ridge-back Scraper is Sonora Flint, 1&15/16"; next in size is a heavily stained 2" Uniface with the medial ridge fluted. Last is a 2&1/4" piece that (I think) is made of Carter Cave Flint--patina and color look right, but there is a local source of some very similar flint to Paoli. This piece has one of the best-knapped scraper edges you will ever see--also a shaft scraper indented on one blade side--worn from use. One small note: the widest piece has a few small edge nicks that leave questions about whether it was dug back in the late 1980s, when most of the Doctor's collection was being assembled from various sellers. All three are 100% real, period. Shipping is $6.00, checks, cash, or M.O.s, but I do not use paypal--Roy A.
