Out of a Jackson County, Illinois collection, 4&11/16" by 2&1/16", 1&3/8" max thickness granite Celt. One NICE bit, not perfectly intact, but very close to it. A few plow scratches make it clear this was a field find, not a river bank find. My guess--Mississippian Culture, but the collector had enough Mississippian Spades, etc...that I suspect those sites were among his best. This longer Celt has the lines of the "pole celt". Polish to the bit area is excellent, same to be said for patination, authentic in every detail. Shipping is by Priority Mail due to the weight--$7.00.
