I've owned this Posey County, Indiana, point for some fifteen years, always wanted to 'type' the piece as a Decatur, but finally decided blade form has more in common with Thebes points than Decatur types. That base, being so heavily ground, that was the final 'decider' to classify the piece as a Thebes--those 'even earlier' Early Archaic points used some of the heaviest basal edge grinding. This blade must have been sort of an early stage knife as there isn't a great deal of bevel sharpening, although there is some bevel pressure flaking on the naturally dished-in face, left side. Length is 2&3/4" by 1&13/16"--thickest single spot is nearer the tip, 3/8" max. There is slight wear on the tip, a small flat spot, and one barb looks like they did some salvage some 8,000 BP.
