The shipping cost comes with the price on this Mid Archaic stemmed point--a Stone Square Stem or in that general Mid Archaic family. Being in the 6500BP time slot, there was little-to-no basal edge grinding--slight dulling of the sides of the stem, though--otherwise the sinew used to haft the knife would cut-through with long use, stretching. The piece is made of Illinois Elco Flint, the Illinois variation of Dover Flint--the only way you know for certain it's Elco is that flint gatherers wouldn't have traveled all the way to Kentucky for flint when they had a more accessible flint supply--Tony DeRegnaucourt nailed that when he said that there are time when you have to rely on "the area found" to identify the chert--look-alike flints, he meant. This point was ex Norm Reid, found in Wayne County, Illinois, in 1955, 3&3/8" by 1&3/16", close to 7/16" max thickness. The sharpening technique is quadra-facial, nearly all percussion work...maybe a little pressure chipping to finish the blade edges--not unskilled work, simply the way Mid Archaic points were formed and sharpened--REAL in every detail. I welcome checks or M.O>s however I do not use paypal--Roy A.
