Material is a tight-grained granite--dense, measures 5&1/4" by just over 3&3/4", but 'trim' only 1&7/8" max thickness on the front ridge. The bit is worn, but intact. The pictures should show the Early Archaic Culture artifact to be a field find--those light scratches and scrapes are also part of its history. There is decent overall grinding, but I don't think you could extend that to say "polished"--the axe is smoother than you'd expect, though, a good in-hand feel. One small note--I see a shallower groove on the top of the axe, makes me wonder if the piece was made toward the latter part of the Early Archaic, more like it was transitioning from Early to Middle Archaic--more like 65--6700 BP, not &7500BP--the 'top' isn't quite flattened like the Mid Archaic axes, but you see indications of a style change. Nice piece. I welcome checks or M.O.s, but I do not use paypal--Roy A.
