Ask me to explain why the Paleo point was notched on the base--on idea--I know 100% that it's ancient work, though, patina doesn't lie.. The same sort of question can be asked (and answered) about why the sides of the tip are notched-in--guesses are about all I've come up with in the half-dozen years I've had this piece. The point came from a very trusted source of Ohio and Daviess County, Kentucky, artifacts, pieces found along the drainage of Panther Creek & side streams. The material is the Kentucky form of Indiana Derby Flint--out of Yellow Banks Creek on the Kentucky side of the Ohio River--in Kentucky the mater is called "Yellowbanks Chert". Length is 1&15/16" by 7/8", only in the 1/4" thickness range. Both sides of the split base are edge ground, as are the lower lateral edges. NICE grinding. Thee was some (repeat that "some") attempt at fluting, and very possibly that's what resulted in a center cleft--the Paleo hunter deliberately took the cleft much deeper than any Clovis I've come in contact with--real, lifetime guaranteed authentic, but the why question, that I can't answer. Shipping is included with the price, payment to be by check or M.O.s. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
