Shipping included with the price on this Union County, Illinois Mid Archaic Axe. Made of a dark granite; 2&3/4" by 2&9/16", ONLY 1&1/8" thick. The piece has an interesting heel, and every indication is that the axe was much longer, What you see forward of the flat 'heel' is the last trace of a center groove--the piece was broken and salvaged, a new groove was added nearer the bit. One feature that still has me puzzled is the double-fracture on the bottom of the heel: too much care was taken to have the small 'breakout' on each side be anything but a deliberate feature to haft the axe. Both sides (both 'dimples) are ground-over. If may be you'd have to experiment with actually placing the piece on a handle to understand the 6500BP reasoning--then again, maybe that's the attraction of owning a piece like this. Neat, authentic, artifact. Checks or M.O.s are always welcomed, however I do not use paypal--Roy A.
