Okay, a bit too much information (as my wife too frequently tells me), but to establish just what this Full Groove Early Archaic Axe is--and how it was found, sometimes humor is best. The piece is from a Jackson County, Illinois collection--wasn't so much as cleaned until I took the photos--maybe it got relegated to a 'junk box' for the collector, I have no way of knowing, but it's granite, it's Early Archaic, and it's real...plow scratches are simply part of the history of the piece, now. Length is 3&3/4", height is 2&1/2', and max thickness is 1&9/16". The Axe was NOT used for chopping, the bit is far too dull, and doesn't look to have ever been a crisp edge (chopping wood), so the use had to be for some other purpose--a grooved hammer? then again, I wouldn't want to get hit by even the dull edge if this grooved hammerhead was coming at me---maybe that's what it was for. Again, the piece is real in every detail. Shipping is included with the price, checks are much, much appreciated. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
