An Illinois piece, white Burlington Chert, 4&11/16" by 1&1/2", max thickness of 1/2"--Ramey Knives ten to be pretty large, they're associated with the fantastic Cahokia Complex culture. I didn't get a county info, but the piece comes from G.Noel, the most knowledgeable, honest dealers in the country. When I have a question, Gary's table( at an artifact show) is where I head--if I can't find Jerry Dickey, anyway. I respect their opinions, HIGHLY--that, and the obvious patina, every detail of this big knife is guaranteed authentic .Mineral spots on Burlington, that takes centuries to form. Note the chert had some 'light' heat treating--the reverse face shows the slight iron "red tinge" of iron oxides that only show up when Burlington Chert is heat treated. NICE piece.
