The classification I'd give the point is a Mid Archaic sliding into Woodland usage stemmed point--kind of a 'broad range', but I still haven't found a more perfectly suited classification--you may. There is no basal edge grinding, and that trait--along with the wide form is more what I assign to the Late Archiac period, forms changing so fast it's a challenge to accurately 'type' the points. Flint--hey, that's much easier--Ohio Nethers Flint/ Chert is SO distinctive, it stands out in practically any frame, your eye drawn to it. I make no apologies for the tip having been fashioned (anciently) into a buffing tool--a 10x loop will show multiple flakes removed to make the piece a polishing "scraper", worked-down from a much larger knife form--note how the tip is off-center from all that sharpen-and-use the user went through. The piece is from a north central Indiana collection but didn't come with provenance--was it found in Indiana, or was it purchased from an Ohio collector, that I wasn't able to learn--it's REAL, period. Length is 1&3/4", the width is only 1/16" less than that, thickness never reaches 3/8". Shipping is $8.00, checks or M.O.s are welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
