A well made Hopewell Celt, granite, 3&3/8" by 1&3/4", only 13/16" max thickness--the Celt comes from an Evansville, Indiana, area collection--field-found as spotting disc marks isn't too hard. There are only a few light scratches, but they tell you this wasn't a riverbank find. Overall polish is excellent. It's when you start studying the very dulled bit that you start asking "Why'd them dull it like that?" When you get the Celt under magnification you can see the grinding that polished the bit edge--somewhat, at least--old grinding that looks like it was never finished. You can trace one thin plow scratch that goes right across the bit edge--it came later than the Hopewell salvage, and is an excellent way to see "which came later"---and obviously it was the plowing. Note awhat to me is a very interesting feature: the HEEL is more polished than the bit area--for me that's a first--they were using the heel for something, some action that highly polished the granite--but what??? Shipping comes with the price, checks or M.O.s are welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
