The polish is ancient--Hopewell work, not modern--I tried every chemical from Acetone, alcohol, brush cleaner (toluene) I could think of--I've done a lot of painting, have a good idea what cuts through anything applied to the surface of flint. This polish is from ancient rubbing, it's not an 'add on'. best guess I've come up with is that the Hornstone Snyders, Massac County, Illinois, was rubbed against leather, over-and-over...likely on a snowy day like today, someone stuck in a hut, waiting for the weather to improve. Length is 2&1/4" by nearly 1&5/16"--slightly over 5/16" max thickness. The finder gave me the provenance, so I know it's an Ohio River beach find--real in every detail. The barbs and the tip show minor wear, but it's the polish that makes the piece collectible, I think. Shipping is $8.00 with checks or M.O>s welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
