Is the piece a Table Rock (T.R.), or is it a Benton? Sometimes the differences in classification as so slight it's impossible to distinguish one from another, both being Middle Archaic point forms. Occasionally the table Rocks will have a ground basal edge (this one does not). Other characteristics of either point form, well, sometimes it seems like the examples you see in Overstreet books could be used under either point type heading--Bottle Neck seems a 'safe choice'. This 3&1/2" by 1&3/8" wide blade was once much longer--judging by the center thickness of almost 7/16"--the knife had a lot of use, numerous blade edge sharpening cycles--you also see a sizable heat pop-out up high on the blade--that wasn't enough to concern the hunter, though, as you can see later blade edge rework on the outer edge of the pop out. The only thing I'll describe as 'damage' is slight nicks on the outer corners of the stem, the hunter putting too much torque (twist action) on the blade as they were working with the knife. The finder grew up in the Elizabethtown, KY, area--and that's the best provenance I can provide--his collection was mainly Sonora Flint, so you know that E-town is where he was hunting. Shipping is $8.00, checks or M.O.s are how I welcome payments. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
