I was just about to list this Knobbed Hardin as a point-converted-into-a-scraper when (under my camera lens) a metal flake caught the light--right in the middle of the scraper edge. You see something like that, it is NOT right--there shouldn't be metal flake, no matter how tiny. That 'flake' is a clue someone wanted to pass-off a rechip as an authentic point--or, maybe, they did it for their own collection, but then the collection was sold. It happens. A "quick aside"--at an auction some years back I saw an 89 year old farmer watching his collection get auctioned, seated on the back of a farm vehicle watching potential buyers 'ponying up" mega dollars for his extensive self-found 'arrowheads'. One frame I bought had seventeen points, EIGHT of which had rechipping by NAIL--yeah, metal debris in areas that should never have seen metal. Any point you're intending to buy, if you see a color change on a tip, a basal corner, some feature where you ask yourself "Why'd they shape it like that, that's odd..., why is the color not consistent as the chips mode out to the edge, what am I seeing?" Chances are you're looking at someone's attempt to fake a piece (to sell it). My rock garden is full of that kind of flint 'trash'--Roy A.
