The Dovetail is Indiana Hornstone, but soil minerals gave the knife point a 'reddish' hue--iron in the soil (or a creek) will do that. The point is out of a Dubois County, Indiana, collection--small collection, I assume gathered on their farm--measures 2&5/8" by 1&3/16", nearly to 3/8", so there had to have been quite a large blade to start with. The strong bevels tell you the story, sharpen-and-use, then repeat that process many times. The small corner of the dove base has an Early Archaic-made corner chip--it may not show in the pics, but there's still some long-dried mud on the piece; I've displayed the Dove exactly as-found, but wash it if that's your choice. Not mentioned so far, but the basal edge shows heavy edge polish (grinding). The piece is guaranteed authentic in every detail. Shipping is $8.00 with checks or M.O.s how I receive payments. Sorry, I do no use paypal-type payments--Roy A.
