A banded form of Harrison County, Indiana, Hornstone, 3&3/16" by a wide 2&1/16"--close to (but slightly under)3/8" along the medial ridge. The Daviess County, Indiana, find has never been washed, field dirt still in the crevices--you see it as it was found. The base must have snapped shortly after the point (knife) was made, there being very little sharpening along the blade edges. The sheer width confirms that, the blade would have been narrowed by any sharpening. Note the "re-hafting" notch on the longer barb--an attempt to fit the big knife to a new handle, tie it with sinew. The shorter barb was salvaged at an angle, then highly polished. How that'd help tie the piece securely I'm not sure, but the polish is deliberate; they HAD a reason. On the notched-barb side there is a shaft-sharpening indention, use-polished as well. There is slight use--some wear, off the side of the tip. Small wear spots such as that came about from a specific function, call it a 'secondary use'--most ancient tools had those extra functions, they were part of a toolkit--and you could only carry along so many tools as you traveled. Every detail of this piece is lifetime guaranteed authentic. Shipping is $5.00, and I welcome checks or M.O.s, but please note I do not use paypal--Roy A.
