The first look, as I pulled this sort-of-thick point from its frame--"I've seen those before", and a quick reference to Overstreet confirmed the classification: Fishspear The thickness is the first thing that strikes you (5.5 sixteenths), and a 'tail' that expands, not straight, rounded, or contracting. Too, the parallel flaking indicates a more "Early Archaic structure", many of the upper end flakes being oblique flaked, that nice angled flaking you see on points like an Elk River. This hornstone point, 2&3/4" by 3/4", is very typical in terms of size. The finder, somewhere in the corner of S.W. Indiana, didn't wash the piece, field dirt still there in the crevices, the 'patina' exactly as the piece came from a field--authentic. Shipping is the USPS minimum for a small box, $8.00 (yeah, gripes me too), and I take payment ONLY by the three methods you can send through the postal service: cash, checks, or money orders--Roy A.
