A large Cache Blade from a Vanderburgh County, Indiana, collection--not marked/ labeled to indicate it's a Crib Mound Blade--one of the 10,000--14,000 that were found at the Spencer County, Indiana, Crib Mound, but the Harrison County (Indiana) Hornstone is the right 'form' for those blades. The only difference is that this piece doesn't have the mussel shell calcium adhesions of most of the cache--so my view is that the "type is right" even if the calcium isn't 'crunchy' all over the surface. The patina has an even older feel than the Crib Blades, the flaking being those extra large flake scars of earlier cultures--I've seen Paleo blades that have this type patina, so that's what I think the piece is, and the culture that made it. With a preform you don't have a diagnostic base and blade form, you have to judge the piece by the type flaking that fashioned it, and few cultures used these big blades--4&3/8" by 2&15/16", 11/16" thickness--Paleo and Adena seem to be the only ones--you'll have to decide for yourself which you think this is, but regardless, it's REAL. Shipping is $10.00, checks or M.O.s (or cash) are the only ways to buy the piece as I do not use paypal--Roy A.
