A Spencer or Perry County, Indiana, Cobbs Knife found somewhere before 1970--it spent decades stored in an old shoebox, passed from one generation to the next--sometimes, there's no one left to pass the piece along to, the collection gets sold. The widow of the last owner gave me what little info she knew--and I thanked her for that==you keep whatever scrap of history that comes with an artifact, you pass that to the next to own the piece. History matters. This Cobbs is a tan flint related to Indiana Hornstone--it there were a modern-made chip it's likely show much darker in color. My 10x loop has traveled around the edges, both sides, and I can't spot any modern damage, but in places the dark grey of hornstone does show--numerous iron spots of mineral build-up are also to be found on the 3&13/16" by 1&1/2" blade. Thickness is only 3/8" at the single thickest spot--read that as "good balance", the Early Archaic knapper made a perfect preform for a Lost Lake--should he ever need to cornernotch, (haft) the knife. Shipping is $8.00, checks or M.O.s are the only ways (or cash) to buy it as I do not use paypal-type payment services--Roy A.
