A smaller size (2&3/8" by 2" by 5/8" max thick Cache Blade made from a decent grade of Indiana Harrison County-type Hornstone--a layer flint, not a nodule flint as the lighter colored inclusions generally aren't seen in the nodules. There, you usually have quartz crystals in the center of the nodule--a geode, in effect. This piece comes from the Evansville, Indiana, area. Note the much higher pressure chipping along the work edge--so many Cache Blades, they were made to be more easily transported from quarry to flint reduction station-- a" get rid of excess weight-- before we head home" camp--to home village. Flaking was percussion work, hammer the flint blades to shape, fine work being done at home where flint fragments might be usable for some other purpose (small cutting tools). This blade, the Woodland user spent some time on, he made a cutting or scraping edge with more precise flakes--nice work, patinated ancient work. Shipping comes with the price, checks, cash, or M.O.s welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
