Made of a heavily iron stained Mill Creek Chert from far southern Illinois, this Red Ocher Blade came from the finder in Wayne County, Illinois--I've held it in my collection for slightly over a quarter century--the deep red iron staining was different than any long (4&7/16") blade I'd come across. For all that length the piece is thin, my caliper doesn't ever exceed 3/8", and the width is 1&1/2". For a chert that's usually reserved for Spades and Notched Hoes, the Late Archaic Turkey Tail Culture knapper was highly skilled at thinning his preform--there is more pressure flaking than percussion chipping, high quality work. The basal edge, the lower lateral edges, they're deliberately dulled. Every detail is guaranteed authentic. Shipping is $7.00, checks or M.O>s are welcomed. Sorry, my store does not use paypal--Roy A.
