A Burlington Chert Early Archaic Cobbs Knife, St. Claire County, Illinois, 5&3/16" by 2&1/4", 1/2" max thickness knife. The Burlington Chert is heat treated which accounts for the orangish-red coloration. Both lower blade edges show shaft scraping indentions, some work polish to be felt--use dulling, maybe even some grinding to smooth the rounded basal edge of the knife, too. If this was a hand-held knife I'd sure want that base dulled--seems logical, but most Cobbs Knives don't show much (if any) basal edge grinding--could be they were used in a way we don't really understand. Big knife, big (authentic) patina. Shipping is $8.00, checks or M.O>s are welcomed. Sorry, I do not take electronic payments (like paypal)--Roy A.
