The weight is just enough that the Axe/ Maul/ hammer is going to have to ship by Priority Mail, $11 with all the packing so it's tightly wrapped--that's the shipping cost. The piece, and I think it's a Maul, is out of a Wabash & Edwards County, Illinois, collection--the auctioneer for the estate gave me a little background for the finder, so I'll include that provenance for the next owner--it's part of the history for the piece, it's important to keep. Length is a 'sort of stubby' 2&3/4", width is 1&11/16"--'height' if that's the correct way to say it, is close to 2&3/8". The flattened area on the top looks like it was either the original surface of the granite cobble (off the nearby Wabash River), or a flake-off that occurred when the Mid Archaic user was 'dressing down' the cobble--you pecked and ground away a lot of rock to get to the final shape--sometimes a piece just breaks off. That blunted or rounded end is heavily polished. More time went into making the piece than most of us would be comfortable with, but you can't exactly go to the hardware store and buy a tomahawk, not 6500BP. Authentic in every detail--guaranteed real. I welcome checks or M.O>s, I try to ship the next business day after receiving a payment, but do not take paypal--Roy A.
