Typing (classifying) the piece is somewhat of an opinion, I think. Jerry Dickey called the point a Holcombe on the COA some years ago (2011)--when purchased from Jim Goodge about 2005 he (Jim) & I both looked at it as a Clovis--even if unfluted but basally thinned with multiple thinning strikes. I can see what Jerry was looking at, that pointed auricle (second auricle is anciently nicked). Does that alone make the piece a Holcombe, more of a PA/ NY point type--or that a debate point where a dozen different collectors would split their opinions 50-50? To start off with specifics: the Paleo point is a southern or south-central Indiana-made piece, fashioned of a Harrodsburg Fossil chert,2&1/8" by 1", slightly under 3/8" max thickness as the piece wasn't fluted (which would have thinned it). The flint was very likely a campfire edging stone that changed color due to the heat where it ringed a village firepit, Paleo, even Late Paleo points not being known for heat treating of the flint. This point definitely got hot enough to make a softer fossil chert more 'chippable', and the iron oxides (the red color) do stand out. On the COA Dickey explains the distribution range of Holcombe points, their relations to HiLo and Crowfield points. Interesting reading--interesting point, authentic. Shipping comes with the price, checks or M.O>s are welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
