Fox Valley collectors will recognize the distinctive 'wings', the sharpening pattern that left a narrow 'spike' of medial ridge, and the bifurcated base, of course. The point comes from the Bill Pesch collection, either Fayette or area county in Illinois--prime country for Fox Valley points--Avon Chert, and basing on the hematite color inclusions, there's a good possibility the chert was heat treated. One basal lobe shows a "Vug", a cavity where a fossil dissolved. As the Early archaic Culture point was first made the basal lobe may have been more complete, but over time freeze-thaw snapped a tiny flake. Again, when a knapper was working with a 'weak spot' in the flint itself a fault line would have made that tiny lobe susceptible to a break i water worked its way under the surface. Length is 1&9/16" (decent size for a Fox Valley) by 1&5/16", and THIN, only 1/4" max thickness measured on a slight stack. While Mr. Pesch had catalog numbers inked on the piece his estate auction didn't have more background on this (or the other Fox Valley points he prized in their separate frame.--regardless, the piece is lifetime guaranteed authentic, every detail is authentic.. Shipping comes with the listed price, and payment to be by check or M.O. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
