I pay the shipping on this really large, really heavy Early Archaic Axe out of the Gibson or Posey County, Indiana, area. Made of Greenstone (see the plow scrapes, they show the undersurface green color more than the patinated by 7500 years of time surface)--weight is close to five pounds. The family who found the piece hunted along the Wabash River, any number of Early Archaic sites in the plowed fields off the edge of the floodplain (camps would have been on a small hill, not flat, floodable fields, so the find had to be somewhat removed from rivers' edge. Length is 6&1/16", top-to-bottom measures 4&9/16"--one note there: the front groove ring and the heel 'ridge' have the EXACT same measurement, but they're deliberately made offset--see the pics if that's not making sense. On the heel, the thickness is 2&7/8". A finely made bit finishes the piece--that thin edge (bit) shows a couple of use made, then ground smooth ancient dings--little use dimples like that that tell you the axe was a used tool, not for trophy display. The few plow hits--they are part of the patina--if someone offers you a large axe said to be found in plowed fields, it doesn't have at least 'some' plow marks, the chance it WAS found in a field is remote (you're being sold a story)--this piece is lifetime guaranteed authentic. I welcome checks or M.O.s, but please note I do not use paypal--Roy A.
