A Union County, Kentucky, Pinetree that was part of Dr. Skaggs collection--either a very high grade of Hornstone or a Sonora Flint--the bandings of color in the matrix could well be Sonora--but not a lot of the purple hematite color Sonora normally shows. Length is 2&1/18" by 1&1/8", the length reduced by multiple sharpenings and a very old Early Archaic-made impact fracture to the tip. Some of that channel flake coming down from the tip is a clear indicator of an impact fracture. The basal grinding is super heavy--out-and-out polish, not just grinding. The piece comes not only with a lifetime guarantee of authenticity, but some background information gathered at the Skaggs Auction as to the actual location of the find, who sold it to Dr. Skaggs. There were a number of Pinetrees from that site in the collection, and I've been curious if there was a creek where the finder collected what he sold to the Doctor--worth checking out as time permits. Shipping comes with the price, checks or M.O.s are welcomed. Sorry, my store doesn't use paypal--Roy A.
