One very tiny barb-end chip away from perfection, one nice, nice Late Hopewell point--whether you classify it as a Jacks Reef Corner Notch or an Intrusive Mound Point. The piece was out of the Bill Pesch Collection, Mattoon, Illinois, area.. The flint looks like Indiana "Derby" Flint, Perry County, Indiana; I'm like 99.9% certain it's Derby, so this particular point may have been something acquired from Southwest Indiana--from either a dealer or part of the Art Gerber Collection--that's my bet. You can wish there was some particular provenance to prove the theory. With many flints, their 'distribution range' was limited-- so when you find them in a modern collection you know they got there through modern collectors--they wouldn't have been in an area anciently. Back to this Late Hopewell--just under 1&5/8" by just under 7/8", only 3/16" (these types are almost always thin, they were early bow-and-arrow points). It's lifetime guaranteed real in every detail. Note--there is some basal edge dulling on this piece--REALLY unusual for the type--but authentic. Shipping is $6.00, checks or M.O>s are welcomed. Sorry, paypal is not accepted--Roy A.
