Found near the confluence of the Illinois and the Mississippi Rivers--decades back, the piece from an estate in the Jersey County, Illinois, area. The material is a banded, swirled Kaolin Flint4&4/8" by 1&9/16"--the thickest spot on the big Etley point is slightly over 7/16". The stem is in that "Lazy 'S'" pattern, side-wise that seemed to be a 'standard' for big knives made out to the bottom edge of the starting flint flake. While you could call it 'snap base', it really isn't a break, what you see is the edge of the starting flint piece. If the Late Archaic Etley culture maker had had more flint available he might have fashioned a more 'complete' base--what he made was then ground smooth--the polish is easily felt. The tip has use wear--not so much polished as just worn from some repeated rubbing action; you can feel the wear. The worn blade has a 'classic' Etley shape, incurvate--excurvate, finely patinated, lifetime guaranteed authentic. There is NO additional shipping cost, and payment welcomed by check or M.O. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
