So, clearing a small patch of carpet in my overcrowded sunroom (not ALL my fault, I swear), a tub of Gibson County, Indiana, flint that's been hanging around for years. These are hand counted, slightly over six hundred broken points and/or knives--I weeded out pieces that were "just flint", so what you'll get, they're good for study, understanding flints, point types, and patina. All were found along the Wabash River, so there'll be many Indiana flint types (Hornstone and Indiana Holland Chalcedony) along with some Illinois material (Burlington Chert and Kaolin Chert--add to that some glacial gravels the river carried from more northerly chert deposits, knapped, used, and broken by whichever culture that made them--a LOT of Hopewell and Mid Archaic Benton-type peoples, plus some Mid-to-Late Archaic point types--you see the bases, the mix of types, you'll understand. The second batch, piled on my DeLorme Gazetteer (not included) are FREE--as in PLEASE take them, I have too much flint as-is...and have fun studying them, give them as gifts, rock your driveway, whatever--enjoy them. In all seriousness, you learn by studying how flint was knapped, how ancient peoples start working a rock, how they modified a broken tool, and finally, when it reached the "doesn't owe you anything" stage, how they abandoned a flint tool--if YOU can't think of a further use, neither could they, most likely. The shipping is included with the heavy group, USPS middle size Priority Mail package($23)--wish there was a cheaper way to send them, but that cost is included with the purchase. I welcome checks or M.O.s, but do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
