The finder wrote "knife" in some sort of red pencil on the face of the big hafted knife--accurate, as far as that goes. At one time he (in N.C. Indiana) had more provenance as there are twin strips of a glue residue--don't know if the estate auctioneer removed the provenance, they OFTEN (to my disgruntlement) do that--I want the history on a piece any time I can get it. Regardless, I'll provide what I know to the next owner of the very patinated hornstone knife. Length is 4" by 1&5/8", but only 3/8" thickness--for a long knife that's decent thickness. The stem shows any number of ancient modifications, all patinated by age. Identifying the culture that made the knife is a challenge: note the very large flake scars, some reaching and even passing the medial ridge, to me that indicates a very early culture, possibly before Early Archaic, but with the as-found condition of the stem it's hard to be more specific--you decide. Shipping is $8.00, checks, cash, or M.O.s are the ways I welcome payment. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
