I was talking about "favorite Thebes' points with a friend, Mark W., mentioned this, my personal favorite, so--just for display--here is the creek find--S.W. Indiana, 3" by a wide 2&1/16"--some Early Archaic wear, a nick or tip wear-down to be seen. G-10s are darn near all fakes imho, I want WEAR, I want to see how the piece was used, see what'd they do after a nick of ding--how they would sharpen/ bevel the blade. This big Warrick/ Dubois County creek find not only FIT the bill, it exceeded it--it's a fossiliferous form of flint in the hornstone 'family'--but check out the notches, THERE is where it gets interesting. The 'ruddy colored' buildup is from a mastic the Thebes Culture hunter used to secure the sinew binding the knife to the antler beam handle. I don't know that I've ever seen a resin-hard residue still intact on any piece of flint. My thanks to the finder, R. Bailey for making this one available--it's my favorite Thebes--by a looooong shot. Roy A.
