A Clovis I 'put back' a few years back, ex Norman Reid Indian Hill Museum (private museum) in Bone Gap, Illinois. Norman marked the point as having been found in his home area, Edwards County, Illinois, in 1961--he signed most of the pieces in his collection, at least the ones I added to my collection--good provenance. This really, really thin Paleo measures 2&1/8" by 15/16", the blade barely reaching over 3/16" thickness in the very center, then thinning to both base and tip. One lateral edge shows good grinding, the other edge you detect grinding only on the bottom 3/16" (a small chip in the side, so small it may not show up in the photos. The basal edge, while it does show 'flute-like flakes' has very little basal grinding--grinding isn't absent, it's just barely dulled. The toning of the flint is consistent with Illinois Hornstone--Cobden Flint. Note the tip, it has almost a 'beveling technique' to get a sharp point--that method having been done as the piece is so thin there. Every detail, patina and form is consistent with the Late Paleo Unfluted Clovis--i.e. it's real. Shipping comes with the price, checks or M.O.s are how I welcome payment. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
