My caliper reads on the 'low side' of 3&1/2", so close you see the bar measure almost touching 3.5"--that's a pretty good size Dove for Indiana Harrison County-type Hornstone. Width is 1&3/8", center of blade thickness is 3/8"--as the photos will show, there is very little bevel sharpening, the blade had not much usage (resharpening) after it was first a Cobbs Knife (preform for an early stage Dovetail). Basal grinding is excellent. A slight use-wear to the tip indicates the Early Archaic era user/ hunter was working the tip as a gouge--under magnification you can see wear polish--his work may have worn away an eighth inch of the length, hardly any more than that. I'm assuming this was a creek find based on the STRONG patination, Warrick County, Indiana--the finder, now deceased, can't tell me that, only the heavy mineralization can. To say it very simply: as long as I'm alive the piece is guaranteed authentic, it'll always be welcomed back in my collection. One note--the base shows a slight 'cleft' in the flint itself--the price reflects that 'fault line'. Shipping is $8.00, packed very, very securely. I welcome checks, I welcome money orders, but I do not use paypal-type payments--Roy A.
