Two different counties, Jefferson County, Illinois for the Axe, Bond County, IL, for the Celt. The Axe (3&9/16" by 2&1/2",1&1/8" thick) is glacial granite, the Celt, 3&11/16" by 2", only 5/8" thick is a black hardstone (Diorite?) that really permitted a fine bit. Without plow scars I'm assuming the Celt was a river beach find. The Axe, plows rolled it a few times, but let's face it, this was an "everyday tool" , not a show pieces--the Early Archaic maker/ user sharpened the bit repeatedly; you can see how blunted the bit area is--yet still shows a good working bit. The heel, yeah, they used it as a hammer some 7500 BP. If you're after more 'perfect examples" check older listings on my store--these are listed as they're what each of the represented cultures, Early Archaic and Woodland, made and used. As such they're absolutely real. Shipping is the "stranglehold price" by USPS--$14.00 for Priority Mail. I welcome checks or M.O.s, but I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
